Women On An Adventure:
The Column on Family Outings in The Lone Star State by Jasmine Leigh Richmond
Back in August of 2001, August 5th
to be exact, me, Jasmine, my oldest
sister, Mariah (aka Lone Star Ma) and my niece, Momo went on an adventure!
An adventure so great that only three great women (or maybe one woman, one
preteen almost-a-woman and an almost six-year-old) could handle it!
It all started on August 4th when we drove from Corpus Christi, Texas
to San Marcos, Texas to spend the night at one of my dad’s friend’s houses.
It was very hard for LSM to find her way to the house so the great Auntie
Jazz had to navigate the way! And we really roughed it that night! We
slept inside while my dad and his Boy Scouts camped in the backyard.
The next morning, we left for Schlitterbahn, which was totally a
splash! Momo loved it and wants to go again this summer! After a
fun-filled day at the water park, we headed home for Corpus Christi. But we
knew we couldn’t pass up the San Antonio River Walk, so yet again
the amazing Auntie Jazz used her great navigating skills to get us off the
highway, in a parking spot and onto the River Walk.
We had the grandest time that night (and day)! We rode the riverboat
and found out all kinds of things about San Antonio. After the boat ride, I
found us a place to eat and a place to buy Momo a gift!
But, sadly, the adventure had to end. LSM and me had to go to work in
the morning (I go and sit in her office and read when I’m visiting) and Momo
had school. So, I led us back to the car and to the highway.
Adventures are a great way to bond and I suggest every woman should
have at least one a year! I hope I made you want to take an adventure and I
hope to have many adventures to come this summer.
Jasmine is 13 years old and obviously destined for greatness. In
addition to being the best Auntie in the known universe at this printing,
she is also active in Girl Scouting and a wide variety of sports. She is a
ham radio operator and a member of the National Junior Honors Society.
